Ah... the Cole Porter masterpiece based on the Shakespeare play "The Taming of the Shrew" starring Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson as Petrucio and Katharina.
The kids picked this out (after seeing Howard Keel in the movie last Sunday) and Aaron and Aimee liked it (Alex got bored and Andee fell asleep).
They liked the music and the dancing (Aimee's favorite was "I Hate Men" while Aaron liked "Brush Up On Your Shakespeare") but the intertwined stories got them confused. I had to pause it every once in awhile and explain things to them (i.e. the gambling debt, the flowers being delivered to the wrong person, etc.), but they enjoyed it.
I was surprised to see that this one of Bob Fosse's first films (he played Hortensio). Fosse went on to direct and choreograph some of the best Broadway shows ever (ahem, anyone ever heard of Cabaret?).
Anyways, we'll see what happens next time... the kids want to see Newsies next, but we might throw in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
