(a + b) + c = x

a = Aaron

b = Scouts

c = Pocket Knife

Solve for x.

You guessed it, he cut himself.

Last night for scouts they were going to learn about knife safety, and so the den leader asked the scouts to bring a pocket knife for their Bear Den Meeting.

Since Aaron didn't have a pocket knife, I stopped on the way home from work and bought him a standard 2-blade Buck Knife ($15 from Wal*Mart). All the while, I thought he was going to cut himself. I knew that he would cut himself.

Anyways, when Min came back from Scouts with him, Aaron had his finger in a BandAid (leaders were prepared). I seems that they were carving "soap boats" when Aaron's knife slipped and hit the tip of his index finger on his left hand. He was being so careful... but hey, these things happen.

Once he saw that he had drew blood he called for a leader, stayed calm, then looked at his finger again and passed out. Well, he didn't pass out... he just got really light-headed and had to sit down.

So that was his first experience with a pocket knife.

Oh the joys of Cub Scouting!

Extreme Make-Over: Our Edition (The End)

Okay... the house is officially done! That is... officially sided and re-windowed.

First off, here are some before pics (you can click on them to make them bigger).

This is our sad chimney. You can clearly see that it is very weather worn and the compressed board is rotting and falling off.

Below the front room windows and above the garage there were "water boxes" that were rotting and falling off. With one kick, one of the workers made the entire box come loose. We are glad they are gone... but it looks nasty.

Here is the front of the house (and that white car is the rental that I had while my car was getting fixed). This is the last time that you will see it this way...

And now for something new!

A new front of the house! Complete with new windows and a repainted front door and garage door!

The chimney looks a heckuva alot better now!

Here's the back of the house (ignore the landscaping... or lack there of... that's next on the list).

Here is the side of the house. I love that the holes that were in the side of the house are now covered up and there are no ways for the vermin to enter the roof and walls (we have a history of opossums, raccoons, and squirrels).

The siding is an almond colored molded vinyl and the trim is evergreen metal and fabricated on site.

Here is the new window at the front of the house above the door. Look how clean and new it is!

We are glad to have the window in the game room replaced. About a month ago, Alex cracked the window and caused a few pieces to slide out and fall in between the panes. Here he is standing next to the new window (which he promises to be careful around).

... and lastly, Andee... cheesing it up by the new kitchen window.

Now with this done we have another few things to turn our attention to... but not right now.

Maybe we should get one of these for Alex...

A safety toilet!

Extreme Make-Over: Our Edition (Day 1)

(You can click on the image to see it larger.)

So they started on the house yesterday. The siding will take about 4-5 days but the windows won't be here until the end of next week.

There was on thing about the house that I was bummed about.

I'm use to the green trim on the corners and across the middle of the house, but that is going to no longer be there. The windows, doors, and roof trim will all be in evergreen, but the corners of the house are going to have to be the almond color. They do not make the vinyl siding in evergreen.

Oh well, it'll take some getting use to.

My car got hit last week... (Part 2)

... and the story continues.

I'll make it short. Here are the highlights:
  • I didn't have a camera to take pictures of the damage.
  • I did have my little Flip Video "blogging" camera.
  • The whole time I was filming the damage, the lady who hit me was "singing like a canary."
  • "I didn't even look. I'm so sorry, it's all my fault."
  • Her insurance company (Progressive) called me and admitted fault, offered to pay for everything, and gave me a rental car.
  • The quote came back this morning: $550
  • I'll get the car back on Monday.
  • At that time I can take the little Suzuki SX4 back.
So there's that.

They were so open and friendly. Good people to work with... but they kept asking if I was okay?

I kept saying "Yes, I'm fine."

What did they want to do... give me more money?

Oh wait...

... my neck is starting to hurt. ;)

Extreme Make-Over: Our Edition

We're taking the leap!

We're making a change!

New windows and new siding!

Here's the test they put up today!

My car got hit yesterday... (Part 1)

I knew it would happen sometime.

I left work a little early so that I could get home before Min had to take the kids to piano lessons, so that I could watch Alex and Andee while she was gone. I got to the house at about 3:00 PM.

I thought about stopping for gas.

I thought about grabbing a Sammie from Quizno's (yum).

I thought about stopping to get the mail.

Maybe I was just ignoring the promptings of the Holy Ghost, but I figured I'd better just get home.

Thursday is garbage day. Aaron is supposed to bring in the trash cans after school, but as I pull up, I see that they hadn't been put away yet, so I sat in front of the drive way and called Mindy to send Aaron out to get them.

The line was busy.

As I went to put the close the phone, I caught site of a car backing out around me. It was a gold flash in my rear view mirror.

I looked over my shoulder and saw a car pull away.

"I almost got hit," I thought to myself.

Then WHAM!

I caught a flash of gold in my side mirror and felt the car jerk.

The gold car may have missed me, but the gold van didn't.

A little back story is necessary at this point: The people that owned the house to the left of us we're the children of a 102 year-old man that lived there. Needless to say he was a quiet neighbor. When he passed away, Henry and his wife moved in as renters. They too were nice and pleasant neighbors.

Our real estate agent informed us that the owners decided to sell the house to a lawyer from Austin, who bought it for her mother. The house is completely handicap accessible. We thought that was cool.

Anyways, there's a little more to the story than that.

This lady requires around the clock care and there are nurses constantly coming and going from the residence. We've seen other handicapped people come and go, so we're curious as to what the house is actually used for... anyways, there are always between 2 and 5 cars in the drive or parked out front.

Anyways, we aren't really happy with them (that's another story) or that situation, but oh well. What can we do.

Back to the story; where did I leave off? Oh yeah...

The gold car may have missed me, but the gold van didn't.

Yup.

I got hit.

... and here's the damage:

More later... dinner is ready.
